قالوا له خال بصفحة خدّه

وتفننوا في كنهه وصفاته

They spoke of a mole on his cheek,

And were meticulous in describing it and its qualities,

وأراه عبداً جاء يسرق من جنى

خدّيه مغترّاً بفعل سناته

And showed him a slave who came to steal

The produce of his cheeks, fooled by their beauty,

فرماه ناظره بسهم صائب

وانظر إلى دمه على وجناته

So his guardian struck him with a true arrow,

Look at his blood upon his cheeks.
