    كتعليم الرماية والطعان

    With teaching weaponry and what glory!

    Like teaching archery and spearing

  5. وطال مطاله عن طالبيه

    وهل تجنى الثمار بلا أوان

    And he has continued his quest for it persistently

    Can fruits be reaped without persistence?

  6. وحيث دعاك للعلياء داعٍ

    فلا تقنع بمنزلة الجبان

    Wherever a caller calls you to the heights

    Do not be content with the station of cowards

  7. ترى هل تنكر العلياء نفس

    وتسمح نفس حر بالهوان

    Do you think the glorious will deny themselves?

    Or a free soul will accept humiliation?

  8. ومن يجد المزيد من المعالي

    أيحسن أن يقول إذاً كفاني

    Whoever finds more glories

    Is it better for him to say "enough for me"?

  9. أيطرق عين همتنا سهاد

    وهمّتنا تجلُّ عن البيان

    Does the eye of our ambition sleep

    While our ambition transcends expression?

  10. ألسنا في الطراد بنو نزال

    وفي الهيجا بنو سبق الرهان

    Are we not the sons of combat and war?

    And in valor the foremost in wagers?

  11. سلونا كل شاغلة وقمنا

    بتعليم الرماية والطعان

    Ask whatever preoccupies you and we will rise

    To teach spear-throwing and stabbing

  12. وهل تهوى أكف الأسد إلاّ

    مصافحة المهنّد واليماني

    Do the lion's paws incline to anything

    Except clasping the curved sword and the spear?

  13. وأشهد أنه أولى مهم

    وأفضل ما تقدمه اليدان

    And I bear witness he is most deserving

    Of the best that hands can offer

  14. وقد منّ الحميد به علينا

    فما عذر اللبيب عن التواني

    And the Praised One has favored us through him

    So what excuse remains for the hesitant?

  15. وكم لك أيها الملك المهنى

    علينا من أيادٍ كل آن

    And O King adept in skills

    How many favors you have upon us every instant!

  16. أيادٍ لا يقوم بهن شكر

    وشكر لا يقوم به لساني

    Favors that cannot be thanked enough

    And thanks that cannot be uttered by my tongue

  17. وهل تجد البلاغة من سبيل

    إلى معنى شمائلك الحسان

    Can rhetoric find any way

    To the meaning of your beautiful qualities?

  18. سمت علياك عن رتب المعالي

    فخرَّت سجداً آي المعاني

    Your lofty traits have surpassed the ranks of glories

    Bowing down in prostration, O signs of meanings!

  19. فلا زالت عبيدك في هناء

    ولا زالت بلادك في أمان

    Thus your servants remain in bliss

    And your lands remain in safety
