1. قُل لِاِبنِ مَيٍّ لا تَكُن جازِعاً

    لَيسَ عَلى البِرذَونِ مِن فَوتِ

    Tell the son of Mayy not to despair,

    No loss befalls the saddlebags.

  2. طَأطَأَ مِن تيهِكَ فُقدانُهُ

    وَكُنتَ فيهِ عالِيَ الصَوتِ

    His absence has bowed you in confusion,

    Yet you were loud of voice in his presence.

  3. وَكُنتَ لا تَنزِلُ عَن ظَهرِهِ

    وَلَو مِنَ الحُشِّ إِلى البَيتِ

    You would not dismount from his back,

    Even from the Hushsh to the Bayt.

  4. ما ماتَ مِن حَتفٍ وَلَكِنَّهُ

    ماتَ مِنَ الشَوقِ إِلى المَوتِ

    He did not die a violent death, rather

    He died from yearning for death.
