وَلا خَيرَ في وِدِّ اِمرِئٍ مُتَكارِهٍ

عَلَيكَ وَلا في صاحِبٍ لا تُوافِقُه

There is no good in the affection of one who dislikes you

Nor is there good in a companion who does not match you

إِذا المَرءُ لَم يَبذِل مِنَ الوِدِّ مِثلَما

بَذَلتُ لَهُ فَاِعلَم بِأَنّي مُفارِقُه

When a man does not give the same affection in return

As you have given him, know that I will part from him

فَإِن شِئتَ فَاِصحَبهُ فَلا خَيرَ عِندَهُ

وَإِن شِئتَ فَاِجعَلهُ صَديقاً تُماذِقُه

So if you wish, keep his company but no good is with him

And if you wish, make him a friend whom you accommodate
