1. لحقتُ الماخضين الشعرَ قبلي

    وإن أخلَوا من الزُّبد الوِطابا

    I caught up with those who churned verse before me, though they emptied the skins of their butter.

    So say to the rattler of dry skins of speech: your grasping at the husk denies the kernel.

  2. فقُل لمُقعقعٍ بِشِنان لفظٍ

    نفى إثباتُك القشرَ اللُّبابا

    He plated the cup of poetry with meanings, and the beauty of wording was its foam.

  3. طَلَى كأسِ القريضِ من المعانى

    وحسنُ اللّفظِ كان لها حَبابا
