وغُرٍّ على غُرٍّ جِيادٍ كأنَّما
قوائمُها يوم الطِّرادِ قوادِمُ
And horses upon horses, as though
And noble ones upon noble steeds, as though
Their forelegs on the day of the charge are arrivals
Their legs, on the day of the charge, were wings;
إذا ابتدروا في مَأقِطٍ فرِحَت بهم
صدُورُ المذاكي والقَنا والصوارِمُ
When they initiate in a plain, then the breasts
When they rush into the thick of battle, rejoice in them
Of lances, arrows, and swords rejoice in them
The chests of the war-horses, the lances, and the sharp swords.
