1. لقد شكَّ طرفي والركائبُ جُنَّحُ

    أأنتَ أمِ الشّمسُ المنيرةُ أملَحُ

    My eyes doubted and the pillars trembled,

    Are you the radiant sun or the rising moon?

  2. يظلُّ جَنَآ العُنَّابِ فى صحن خدِّهِ

    عن الوردِ ماءَ النَّرجَسِ الغضِّ يَمسَحُ

    The buds of eglantine remain still on his cheek,

    Wiping off the dew of the pink narcissus flower.

  3. فيَا شاعراً قد قال ألفَ قصيدةٍ

    ولكنّها من بيته ليس تَبرَحُ

    O poet who has composed a thousand poems,

    Yet they do not leave his abode.

  4. ليهنِكَ لا هُنِّئتَ أَنَّ قَصائِدي

    مع النَّجمِ تسري أَو مَع الرِّيحِ تَسْرَحُ

    Congratulations, you were not congratulated,

    That my poems flow with the star or roam with the wind.
