1. Here is a tomb, a garden from the gardens of Paradise,

adorned with divine good pleasure and the Generous One’s grace.

  2. A peerless jewel of glory has alighted within it,

destined for the heights, like the sun among the stars:

  3. a fierce lion in battle, a lion of the lair,

whose judgment was made sure by unerring reason.

  4. Thus it is the resting place of one exalted in rank and might,

of distinguished bearing and august prestige.

  5. He loved justice among all people,

and was forbearing all his days—what a forbearing man!

  6. Thus over his grave there blows forever

the finest breeze of the All-Merciful’s favor.

  7. How sweet! Mark its date with: “Its wafting-place is Ali’s resting place—

may God honor his countenance with bliss.”
