This is the tomb of the youth, namesake of Ibn ʿAwf;
and he was the son of a noble, august gentleman.
Here he came to rest, a martyr to the jinn’s piercing,
when the Lord called him to the Abode of Bliss.
So he journeyed by night toward Him, answering, “At Your call!”
seeking his Lord with a sound heart.
And in the Gardens he became the best of dwellers.
I said, “Record his date: ‘Nay—and a noble guest.’”
