وَشادٍ رَخيمِ الصّوتِ كَالشّمسِ وَجهه
يُغنِّي عَلى دفٍّ فَيَلعَبُ بِالنّفسِ
And a singer, mellow-voiced, his face like the sun,
sings to a tambourine and plays upon the soul.
وَضَوء مُحيّاهُ مِنَ الدّفِّ نافِذٌ
فَيَبدو بِهِ شَمساً تُشاهَد بِالحسِّ
The radiance of his countenance shines out beyond the tambourine,
and through it he appears a sun made visible to the senses.
وَلا شَكّ أَنّ الشّمسَ تَبدو بِكَفِّهِ
فَكَأنّهُ إِذا غَنّى يدقّ عَلى الشّمسِ
No doubt the sun itself appears within his palm:
when he sings, it is as though he beats upon the sun.
