إِن كُنتَ ذا أَدَبٍ أَمسَيتَ ذا شرَفٍ

ولو دنا منكَ من دونِ الورى النسَبُ

If you have good manners, you have attained nobility

Even if those of lowly lineage draw near you

وَدُمتَ مُستغنِياً لَم يَخشَ مَتربةً

لِأنّ كنزَكَ عند الحاجة الأدَبُ

As long as you remain self-sufficient, you need not fear poverty

For in time of need, your treasure is good manners
