لَو يعقِلُ الدّهرُ تَأتيني حَوادِثهُ
بِأَنّ صَبريَ لَيثُ الغابِ يَفترسُ
Had Time understood, as its calamities come upon me,
that my patience is a lion of the wild, ravening for prey,
ما كانَ يرسلُ لي صَرفاً وَكانَ عَلى
صُروفِهِ يختشي مِنهُ وَيَحتَرسُ
it would send no turn of fortune against me; concerning
its vicissitudes, it would fear that lion and stand on guard.
