1. صاحِ مَن لِلحَديثِ والآثارِ

    بَعدَ مَوتِ العلّامَةِ العطّارِ

    O you who are knowledgeable of hadith and stories

    After the death of the renowned scholar Al-Attar

  2. قَد رُزِئنا بِهِ بِأَعظَمِ رُزءٍ

    أَيُّ رزءٍ كَرُزئِنا بِالبخاري

    We have been terribly aggrieved by his loss

    What grief is like the grief for Al-Bukhari?

  3. الشّهابُ المنيرُ بَدرُ المَعالي

    كَوكَبُ الفضلِ مِثلُ شَمسِ النّهارِ

    The radiant star, the full moon of glories

    The celestial orb of merit like the sun of daytime

  4. حافِظُ العصرِ في دِمشقَ فريداً

    في جَميعِ الأمصارِ وَالأَعصارِ

    The keeper of the age in Damascus, unique

    In all regions and eras

  5. كانَ ثَبتاً وَحجّةً وَإِماماً

    عارِفاً بِالحَديثِ وَالأخبارِ

    He was steadfast, an authority, an imam

    Knowledgeable of hadith and news

  6. مُتقِناً لِلعُلومِ مِن كلِّ فَنٍّ

    خيرُ محيٍ لسنّة المُختارِ

    Well-versed in all branches of knowledge

    The best reviver of the Sunnah of the Chosen One

  7. فَعَلَيهِ سَطا المَنونُ كَلَيثٍ

    وَكَأنَّ المَنونَ طالِبُ ثارِ

    So death pounced on him like a voracious lion

    As if death was taking revenge

  8. لَهفَ قَلبي وَيا ذَهابَ عُيوني

    فَعَليهِ لَقَد عَدِمت اِصطِباري

    My heart quivered, and oh, my eyes streamed

    I have lost all patience for his sake

  9. يا اِشتِياقاً مِنَ الصّلاةِ إِلَيهِ

    في ظَلامِ اللّيالِ وَالأَسحارِ

    Yearning for prayers under his leadership

    In the darkness of nights and dawns

  10. يا اِشتِياقاً لِجامِعٍ بِدمشق

    كانَ يُحييهِ بِالدروسِ وَالأَذكارِ

    Yearning for the mosque in Damascus

    Where he would enliven it with lessons and invocations

  11. يا اِشتِياقاً مِن جِلَّقٍ حيثُ منها

    أَخذَت شَمسُ مَجدِها بِالتواري

    Yearning for Jilq wherefrom

    The sun of his glory had set

  12. سارَ مِنها يَبغي جِوارَ كَريمٍ

    وجوارُ الكريم خيرُ جوارِ

    He left seeking the neighborhood of the Kind One

    And the neighborhood of the kind is the best neighborhood

  13. مثلُهُ لَم يَمُت وما اِنفكَّ حَيّاً

    حَيثُ أَبقى الحميدَ مِن آثارِ

    The like of him did not die, he lives on

    Where the Praiseworthy preserved his traces

  14. حَيثُ أَبقى جَميلَ صيتٍ وَذِكرٍ

    في لِسانِ الزَّمانِ وَالأَسفارِ

    Where he preserved a beautiful reputation and mention

    On the tongue of time and across horizons

  15. حَيثُ أَبقى مِنَ الكِرامِ كَريماً

    شَمسَ فَضلٍ بهيّةَ الأنوارِ

    Where he preserved from the generous ones, a generous one

    The shining sun of outstanding grace

  16. نَجلَهُ المَيمون السّعيدَ المُفدّى

    كَوكَبَ المَجدِ واحِدَ الأَقمارِ

    His fortunate, felicitous, most excellent son

    The star of glory, unique among moons

  17. حامِداً ذا الشّمائِل البيض وَجهاً

    جَوهرَ الحُسنِ مُفردَ الأخيارِ

    Bright-faced, of white traits

    The epitome of beauty, unmatched among the elite

  18. عالِماً جَهبَذاً أَديباً لَبيباً

    حاضرَ الذهن صادِقَ الأفكارِ

    A persevering scholar, an eloquent sage

    Quick-witted, truthful in thoughts

  19. رَوضةَ الفقهِ مَنهجَ العلمِ طرّاً

    تُحفَةَ الفَضلِ بَهجةَ الأَبرارِ

    The garden of jurisprudence, the path of knowledge, excelling

    The jewel of merit, delight of the righteous

  20. يَتَصدّى إِلى الدروسِ وَيُكسى

    حلّةَ النّفعِ زيِّنت بالوَقارِ

    He takes to teaching and adorns

    The dress of benefit, graced with dignity

  21. وَعَليهِ الأَسرارُ تُجلى عَروساً

    وَهيَ تَعلو عَرائِسَ الأَبكارِ

    Upon him mysteries are disclosed like a bride

    Rising above the virgins

  22. وَهوَ يَنحو التّحقيقَ فيها بِجدٍّ

    وَاِجتِهادٍ وَهِمّةٍ وَاِعتِبارِ

    He strives in comprehending them assiduously

    With ijtihad, determination and deliberation

  23. وَعَليهِ تَلوحُ أَنوارُ فَتحٍ

    وَأَجلُّ الفتوحِ فَتحُ الباري

    Upon him shine rays of openings

    The greatest opening being that of The Creator

  24. أَيُّها البدرُ لا اِعتَراهُ زَوالٌ

    وَتَناءَى بِسَعدِهِ عَن سرارِ

    O moon that setting cannot mar

    Whose felicity transcends stratagems

  25. إِنّ ما قَد أُصِبتَ فيهِ عَظيمٌ

    وَهوَ أَمرٌ حُكمُ القَضا فيه جاري

    What you have been afflicted with is monumental

    It is a matter predestined inevitable

  26. وَعَلَيكَ التسليم فيهِ بِصَبرٍ

    لَيسَ مِثل التّسليمِ للأَقدارِ

    And upon you is surrender with patience

    Nothing equals surrendering to fate

  27. وَتَذكَّر مُصيبَةً بِنَبِيٍّ

    فَهيَ أَعلى مُصيبة الأَحرارِ

    And recall an affliction that befell a Prophet

    Which is the greatest affliction of the free
