    صفت بعد تكدير بهنّ المناهل

    With you, Zawra will always be safe

    It became serene after the wells were muddied

  3. وأصبح طير السعد يصدح بالهنا

    ببغداد حتى جاوبته العنادل

    The birds of fortune squawk with joy in Baghdad

    Responded to by the wild doves

  4. وحزتَ على الجوزاء مجداً وسؤدداً

    لك السعد يا سعد السعود منازل

    You have gained glory and happiness in Jawzah

    May you always ascend, O Saad, to the highest abode

  5. ودان لك العالي النجار وكيف لا

    وأنت عليٌّ لا تكاد تُطاوَل

    The most high carpenter has submitted to you

    How could he not when you are Ali, the loftiest of all

  6. وخرت غصون المجد غضاً ويانعاً

    وخطّ الذي ناواك فيهنّ ذابل

    The branches of glory have bowed down, fresh and verdant

    And the one who wished you well in them is now withered

  7. ولم تُبقِ للتالين بعدك مفخراً

    ونلت محلاً لم تنله الأوائل

    You have left no source of pride for your successors

    And have attained a status never reached by the ancients

  8. وذلك إن جرّدت لله عزمة

    تميد الرواسي دونها وتزايَلُ

    That is because you have devoted your will to God

    Before whom even foundations tremble and perish

  9. وابديتَ عزماً لو تشاء به السما

    لسارت على متن السحاب الرواحل

    You have demonstrated a will - if you so wished

    The heavens would be responsive to your ships

  10. عصاك بنو ماء السماء وحادهم

    عن الطاعة العظمى ضلالٌ وباطل

    Your staff struck the rainclouds and led them astray

    From the greatest obedience, into misguidance and falsehood

  11. وحاصوا كحُمر الوحش عند رئيسهم

    وظنّوا وخابت بالظنون المآمل

    They scattered like savage donkeys around their chieftain

    And their hopes, built on guesses, came to nothing

  12. وظن سليمان الكبير بأنه

    يجادل خوّاض الوغى ويناضل

    Suleiman, the great, thought

    He would challenge the kindler of unrest and fight him

  13. وسار إلى دار السلام بجحفل

    تهاب لقاه في المجال الجحافل

    He marched with an army that terrified battlefields

    Made up of different gangs with intertwined fingers

  14. أضاميم شتى من بطون تعاقدت

    على البغي منها والخلاف الأنامل

    Pirates who are accustomed to looting ships

    Who bring their spoils back to us in caravans

  15. زعانف قطّاع السوابل عُوِّدوا

    نهاباً لما تجبي إلينا القوافل

    He intended to conquer the king of Iraq

    Thinking he would subdue the lion of the forest - the tribes

  16. ورام بهم مُلكَ العراق وأنه

    ستقهر ليث الغاب تلك القبائل

    He came thundering to Narin

    And scattered the red army that was fighting

  17. فجاء إلى نارين يرعد طوبُه

    وفرّق في حمرين جمعاً يقاتل

    He made the caves in those lands his dwelling

    Exciting the nightingales in those districts

  18. وصار على تلك البقاع مغاره

    فهاجت بهاتيك البقاع البلابل

    He thought he was guaranteed victory with his reinforced army

    Not realizing that God fails the wicked

  19. وظنّ انتصاراً بالجنود مؤزراً

    ولم يدر أن اللَه للخبِّ خاذل

    News of his rebellion reached the cave dweller

    Who saw and understood what was happening

  20. وقد بلغ المغوارَ أخبارُ بغيه

    وصار لديه ما يرى ويحاول

    He crept up on him like a falcon does to its prey

    Undeterred by any discouragement

  21. نحاه كما ينحو الفريسة قسوَرٌ

    وسار إليه لم يثبِّطه عاذل

    He marched with determination; it was Thursday

    His resolve like a sea, his haste like a coast

  22. وسار بحزمٍ والخميسُ كأنه

    من العزم بحرٌ والعجاجة ساحل

    Around him were standards of victory, every cautious

    Bearer of the tools of death vulnerable

  23. ورايات نصرٍ حولها كلّ حاذر

    من الصيد أسباب المنيّة حامل

    Stallions like lion cubs, driven by zeal

    Gallant, proud, dressed for war

  24. فوارس كالأشبال يوردها الوغى

    غضنفرُ مقدامٌ همام حُلاحِل

    A great vizier, wise in counsel, eloquent

    A noble horseman, penetrating in thought, intrepid

  25. وزيرٌ كبير صائب الرأي نابلٌ

    جوادٌ مجيدٌ ثاقبُ الفكر باسل

    Abu Hasan the valiant, his sword

    Arbitrating between injustice and justice

  26. أبو حسنٍ ماضي الجنان كسيفه ال

    ذي هو بين الجور والعدل فاصل

    Ali's virtues exceed his fame

    No matter how much the gossips exaggerate

  27. عليُّ المزايا قدرُهُ فوق ذِكرِه

    وإن بثّ قوّال وأسهب ناقل

    He took the Kurdish army by surprise

    With no negligence or unawareness of war

  28. ففاجأ جيش الكُرد والكلّ حاذر

    وليس بهم عن أهبة الحرب غافل

    An army like clouds, their banners

    Shining white with elegant ends

  29. جنود كأمثال الغمام شعارها

    دلاصٌ وبيضٌ مرهفاتٌ فواصل

    Brown thoroughbreds racing atop the wind

    Which carries their manes while the clouds cling

  30. وسُمر القنا الخطيّ فوق سوابق

    له الريح مَتنٌ والسحاب كلاكل

    They charged like young camels and drove them back

    From the attack, champions matched them blow for blow

  31. فجالوا كأمثال البُزاة وصدَّهم

    عن الكرِّ أبطال كُماةٌ أماثل

    As soon as the ever-victorious Abu Hussein entered the fray

    Their joints failed when confronted by his might

  32. ومذ ولج الميدان ماضي الشبا أبو

    حسينٍ تراخت من عداه المفاصل

    They fled between the shepherds like partridges

    Descended upon by preying eagles

  33. غدوا بين هاتيك الرعان شوارداً

    ككدري القطا انقضّت عليه الأجادل

    The beekeeper slapped their backs as they fled

    While white doves sang victory songs above their helmets

  34. وقد صفّق العسّال فوق ظهورهم

    وغنّت على الهامات بيضٌ عوامل

    Suleiman fled defeated, for there was no escape

    Even if he sought refuge with Bakr and Wael

  35. وولّى سليمانٌ كسيراً ولم يكن

    لينجو وإن آوته بَكرٌ ووائل

    When despair was paired with the gallant youth

    And power when he was chained

  36. وقد قُرِن اليأس المبرِّح بالفتى

    بالبأس لما قيّدته السلاسل

    You showed clemency, as you are capable of pardoning

    When you are complete, who can be like you?

  37. حنانيك عفواً وقد قدرتَ ومن يكن

    كمثلك يعفو قادراً وهو كامل

    If they ever rebel against you

    The lowest of the great always rebel against the lofty

  38. فإن خرجوا يوماً عليك فطالما

    على عظماء المجد تجني الأسافل

    They rebelled treasonously, so it was chronicled

    “And Ali’s sword was destructive to the dissenters”

  39. هم خرجوا بغياً فقيل مؤرخاً

    وسيف عليٍّ للخوارج بازل
