عادَ الكَرى جَفنَ الحَبيبِ وَقَد جَفا
عَيني فَلازَمَها لذاكَ سُهادُ
Sleep came visiting the beloved’s eyelid, though it had shunned
my eye—so sleeplessness clung to it.
فَسأَلتُهُ لِمَ عُدتَهُ وجَفوتَها
فَأَجابَني إِنَّ المَريضَ يُعادُ
So I asked Sleep, “Why visit his, yet shun mine?”
It answered me, “Indeed, the sick are visited.”
