ما لاحَ بَريقٌ مِنَ العُذَيبِ عَلى البانْ
إِلّا وَسَناكُم لَقد أَضاءَ وَقَد بانْ
No glimmer shone from pure wine on the goblet,
Except your brightness illuminated and became clear.
ما سارَ نَسيمٌ وَمَرَّ نَحوَ حِماكم
إِلّا وَشَذاكُم بِهِ تَعطَّر أَكوان
No breeze blew by heading towards your sanctuary,
Except its fragrance from you scented the universe.
يا كَعبَةَ فَضلٍ لِحَجّ كُلِّ إِمامٍ
يا قِبلَةَ عِلمٍ لَها توجّه عِرفان
O shrine of honor, all leaders make pilgrimage to it,
O direction of knowledge, cognition is oriented towards it.
ما زالَ بِفِكري يَجولُ ذِكرُك فَرداً
إِذ كانَ بِفِكري لِذِكرِ غَيرِك نِسْيان
The mention of you ceaselessly wanders in my thoughts alone,
Since for thoughts of other than you, there is oblivion in my mind.
ما زالَ لِساني بِحُسنِ حَمدكَ رَطباً
إِذ كانَ جناني بِحُسنِ شُكرِكَ وَلهان
My tongue remains moist with praise of your beauty,
As my soul remains engrossed in appreciation of your gratitude.
يا عَينَ كِرامٍ بَدَت وَلَيسَ يرى في
أَعيانِ كِرامِ الزّمانِ مِثلَكَ إِنسان
O eye of generosity, you appeared and none
Among the generous of the age can be seen like you.
يا بَحرَ سَخاءٍ عَليَّ جادَ بِدُرٍّ
وَالبحرُ جوّادٌ بِلُؤلُؤٍ وَبِمرجان
O sea of munificence that surged towards me with a full moon!
And the sea surges with pearls and coral.
كَم جُدتَ عَلَينا مِنَ الآلِ بدرٍّ
مِن لَفظِكَ أَزرى مِنَ العُقودِ بعِقبان
How abundant were your gifts to us like brilliant full moons!
I gained more benefit from your words than knotted pacts.
قَد عَظَّم فخري وفيه رِفعةُ قدري
إذ زيّن نحري فلَيتَني لِيَ نَحران
You magnified my pride and elevated my worth,
Since you adorned my neck, would that I had two necks!
مُذ غِبتَ عَنِ الطرفِ ما اِعتَراهُ هُجوع
مِن حين تَناءَيت طرفُ عبدِكَ سَهران
Since you vanished from sight, dejection has not left it
From when your servant’s eye remained sleepless.
إِنّي لَمشوقٌ إِلى لِقائِكَ دَوما
مَعَ كَونِكمْ في الحَشا وَقَلبِيَ سُكّان
I yearn to meet with you always,
Despite you being in the courtyard, while my heart dwells with you.
ما راحَةُ صَبٍّ وَشَوقُه كَثير
مَن يَحمِلُ طَوداً وَمِنهُ لَم يَكُن تَعبان
No rest for one who yearns while his longing remains plenty,
Who carries a load, though he was not weary.
ما كانَ كَهَمِّ البعادِ عِندِيَ هَمٌّ
لَولاهُ لَما كانَ ذو المَحبَّةِ حَيران
The sadness of distance is no grief for me,
Else one who loves would not remain confused.
يا لَيتَ بعادي تُذيبُه يدُ قربٍ
كَي تُذهِبَ عَنّي مِنَ التّفرّقُ أَحزان
Oh if only the hand of proximity could melt my remoteness,
So the sorrows of separation would depart from me.
كَي يُشرِقَ نوراً عَلى جَوانِبِ جِسمي
مِن وَجهِكَ بَدرٌ مِن البَشاشَةِ ريّان
That a shining moon of joyfulness would radiate
Its light upon the sides of my body from your face.
جودوا بِلِقاكُم وَزَوْرَةٍ لِفَتاكم
وَاِحْبوهُ رِضاكُم وَتَوِّجوه بِإِحسان
Bestow us with your visit and care for your beloved one,
And make him pleased with your consent and crown him with utmost benevolence.
يا بَدرَ مَعالٍ ويا حميدَ فعالٍ
يا شمسَ كمالٍ بها المحاسنُ تزدان
O full moon of lofty traits and laudable deeds,
O sun of perfection with which beauty is adorned.
أَنعَمتَ علَينا أَبا النّدى بِقَصيدٍ
فاقَت وَتَسامَت عَلى بَلاغَةِ سَحبان
You blessed us, O father of dew, with an ode,
Supreme over eloquence, transcending Suhban.
مِن سِلسِلَةٍ خِلتها عُقودَ لَآلٍ
في أَحسَنِ نَظمٍ على حلاوة تِبيان
Of a chain whose links are composed of brilliant moons,
In the best composition, upon the sweetness of lucid rhetoric.
شَرّفتَ بِها رأسَ مَن غَدا لكَ قِنّاً
ما أَفخَر تاجاً على التشرّفِ عُنوان
You honored with it the head of one who will devote himself to you,
How proudly a crown assumes the mark of honor!
أَخدمت لها قينةً وليدةَ فكرٍ
هيفاءَ تحاكي على التمايُل أغصان
I harnessed for it a devoted conception, an ingenious idea,
Lissome, emulating bending branches.
ترجوك قَبولاً فلا تردّ رَجاها
هَل منكَ محيا الرّجاءِ يَرجِعُ خَجلان
She implores you to accept her, so do not reject her wish,
Can the bashful hopes of acceptance return from you disappointed?
وَاِسلَمْ وَدُمِ الدّهرَ في حَلاوَةِ عَيشٍ
ما أَطرَبَ طَيرٌ على الغُصونِ بِأَلحان
And submit the lifetime with sweet living,
No bird trilled on branches with more beautiful tunes.
ما الفتحُ لكم رافعٌ لواءَ ثناءٍ
ما لاح بريقٌ من العذيب على البان
Triumph is not for you, raising a banner of praise,
No glimmer shone from pure wine on the goblet.
