وَمِمّن يشيبُ الدّهرُ يَأخذُ ثَأرَهُ
يَقولُ لَهُ قَولاً بِهِ يَتَهَتَّكُ
And from whoever grows gray, Time exacts its revenge,
saying to him, in mockery:
عَلى ذَقنِكَ الشّيب اِغتَدى الآنَ ضاحِكاً
وَكانَ عَلى ذَقني شبابكَ يَضحكُ
“Upon your chin, gray hair has now dawned, laughing,
while once your youth laughed upon my chin.”
