لَمّا رَأَى آسَ العِذارِ عَذولُنا

سالَت لَواحِظهُ على خدّاهُ

When he saw the excuses of our beloved

Her glances flowed over his cheeks

فَكَأنّه أَفعَى بدُجْنةِ وَكرِهِ

وَرَأى الزّمُرّدَ فَاِنفَقَت عَيناهُ

As if he were a snake in its burrow

Who saw an emerald and his eyes burst
