1. حَبل الهَوى بِفُؤادِ الصبِّ مَشدود

    وَبابُ سلوانِهِ لا شكَّ مَسدودُ

    The cord of love is tightly drawn in the heart of the youth

    And the door of his affection is undoubtedly barred

  2. يا ظَبيَةَ المِسكِ حيثُ المِسك مِن دَمِها

    لا طيبَ في الطيبِ مثل المِسك موجودُ

    O musky gazelle, the musk is from her blood

    There is no fragrance in perfumes like the musk found

  3. نَفحاً لِخِدن الجَوى يشفى بِهِ وصِب

    مِن لَوعَةِ البعدِ مَكبود وَمَفؤودُ

    A waft for the cheek of the beautiful one, healing longing

    Compressed and suppressed from the agony of distance

  4. يا مُهجَةَ الصبِّ أَفناهُ الجَوى وصَباً

    فَالرّوحُ ذائِبة وَالقَلبُ مَفقودُ

    O tormentor of the youth, longing has exhausted him to the point of melting

    Thus the soul is melting and the heart is lost

  5. رِفقاً بِمَن في الهَوى شَبَّت صَبابته

    وَشابَ بِالوَجدِ مِنهُ الفَرق وَالفودُ

    Have mercy on one whose youth love has kindled

    And the separation has caused his head and neck to grey

  6. الشَّوقُ أَنحَلهُ وَالبعدُ أَتلَفهُ

    وَكُحلُ مُقلَتِه سُهدٌ وَتَسهيدُ

    Yearning has worn him out and distance has ruined him

    And kohl around his eyes has faded and smudged

  7. ضَحَّى كَراها عَلى اِسمِ الوَجدِ مِن ولعٍ

    فَدَامَ لِلسّهدِ فيها الدّهرَ تعييدُ

    He took a false oath of love to the name of longing

    So for the faded remains pledged for eternity

  8. يَتيمَةُ الحُسنِ يا بِنت الجَمالِ زَها

    يا غُصنَ بانٍ تَثَنّى وَهوَ أُملودُ

    O beautiful and graceful orphan girl

    O gently swaying branch of sweet basil

  9. في وَجهِها الحسن قَد حَلّى نَضارتَه

    في خَدِّها خَفر يَعلوهُ تَوريدُ

    In her beautiful face, freshness has adorned its beauty

    On her cheek a flush overwhelmed by paleness

  10. إِلَيكَ عَنّي الجَفا إِن كُنت راحِمةً

    فَجَفوَةُ الصبِّ تَعذيبٌ وَتَبعيدُ

    If you would show mercy, then disdain me not

    For the youth, cruelty is torment and estrangement

  11. عِدِيهِ بِالقُربِ حتّى لَو مَطلتِ بِهِ

    فَمِنكِ تَحلو معَ المَطلِ المَواعيدُ

    Make me happy with nearness, even if you are late

    For in you even the late meetings have sweetness

  12. يا طَلعَة الشَّمسِ إِنّ البدرَ خادِمها

    في مِثلك البدرُ مَجدودٌ وَمسعودُ

    O rising sun, the full moon is in your service

    In your like, the full moon is eclipsed and extinguished

  13. في وَجهِك الحسن كلّ النّاسِ تَشكرهُ

    وَالحُسن يشكرُ وَالمَشكورُ مَحمودُ

    In your beautiful face, all people offer thanks

    And the Grateful One thanks the one who is thanked

  14. الجَهبذُ العالِم النّحرير سَيِّدنا

    مَن بِالعلومِ لَهُ وَالفضل مَشهودُ

    The eminent scholar, our master the draftsman

    The one whose knowledge and superiority is witnessed

  15. قاضي القُضاةِ قَضاياهُ لَقَد شهدت

    بِأَنّ أَحكامَهُ للحقِّ تأييدُ

    The judge of all judges, his judgments I have witnessed

    That his rulings side with the truth, given support

  16. مُحرّر الحُكمِ طبقَ النصِّ يوقِعهُ

    وَالنصّ لِلحكمِ تَحريرٌ وَتَشييدُ

    Drafting the ruling precisely according to the text he endorses it

    And the text confirms the ruling, precisely and firmly

  17. عَن فَضلِهِ وَهوَ بَحر قُل وَلا حرج

    فَما عَنِ البحرِ لِلتّحديثِ تَحديدُ

    Of his virtue—though it is an ocean—say without hesitation

    That the ocean cannot be limited, no matter the effort

  18. فَاِحمَد فَضائِلَهُ وَاِشكُر فَواضِلَهُ

    وَاِمدَح شَمائِلَهُ فَالكلُّ مَحمودُ

    Then praise his merits and thank his bestowals

    And laud his fine qualities, for all is praiseworthy

  19. الأَمجَدُ الشّهم وَالمولى الهمام ومَنْ

    عَلَيهِ ظلّ العُلى وَالمجد مَمدودُ

    The most glorious and noble protector, the one

    Upon whom the shadow of glory and extended honor falls

  20. شَمس العُلى نورها عَلياءُ سُؤددهِ

    يَمتَدُّ لا يَنتَهي لا حدّ مَحدودُ

    The sun of highness, its light flooding the peaks

    Extending without end, no limited boundary

  21. تَلوحُ فَوقَ ثريّا العزِّ في شَرَفٍ

    يَدومُ في عِزّها للسَّعدِ تَخليدُ

    It shines above the throne of honor most loftily

    In its glory lasting, bestowing good fortune

  22. بَحر النّدى مَنْ بِهِ لِلجودِ مفتخر

    بِغَيرِ راحَتِهِ لا يَفخرُ الجودُ

    The sea of glory, the one who prides in generosity

    Without tiring, none can pride in generosity

  23. شِبل الوَزيرِ الشّهير الصّدرِ الأَعظم مَنْ

    مِنْ قُضبهِ البيضِ أَيّامُ العِدا سودُ

    The cub of the famed grand vizier, he who

    By his white spear the days of enemies are blackened

  24. دانَت مِنَ الرّومِ وَالإِفرنجِ حينَ غَزا

    لِسبعهِ خيفةً حكّامها الصيدُ

    The Romans and Franks submitted when he waged war

    In fear of him, their rulers but prey

  25. الشّهم يوسُف والي جدة عَمرت

    من في خِدامةِ خَيرِ الرُّسلِ مَسعودُ

    The glorious Yusuf, Governor of Jeddah, renewed

    He who serves the best of messengers, fortunate

  26. عَليهِ مِن رَبّهِ الرّضوان يَغمرهُ

    وَعَمَّ مَضجَعَهُ مِن ذاكَ تَبريدُ

    Upon him from his Lord, satisfaction envelops him

    And it spreads over his resting place, cooling him

  27. يا أَيّها الفَخمُ مَن تُتلى مَدائِحُهُ

    فينا وَقَد زانَها بِالحَمدِ تَجويدُ

    O eminent one, whose praises are recited amongst us

    Adorned by praise and excellent recital

  28. إِلَيكِ بنت قَوافٍ وَجهُها حسنٌ

    خودٌ رداحُ بِها قَد تَفرحُ الخُودُ

    To you, daughter of a noted family, your face is beautiful

    Alluring, cheeks that bring joy to cheeks

  29. حَوراء غَيداء مِثل الشّمسِ طَلعتُها

    عَبيدها مِن سَناها الحور وَالغيدُ

    A radiant, fair-complexioned houri, resembling the sun is her advent

    Her maidservants are houris and gazelles from her brilliance

  30. بَليغَة نُظِمَت في مَدحك اِبتَكَرَت

    في نَحرِها الرّطبِ عقدُ الدرِّ مَعقودُ

    Eloquent poetry composed in your praise which has crafted

    Around its luscious prose, a necklace of pearls strung

  31. فَاِمنُن عَلَيها وَأَنعِم بِالقَبولِ لَها

    فَمِنكَ ذَلِكَ مَرجوٌّ وَمقصودُ

    Bestow favor upon it and bless it with acceptance

    For that is hoped and wished from you

  32. وَدُمتَ بِاللَّهِ مَحفوظاً وَمُعتَصِماً

    لا نالَكَ الدّهرَ تَكديرٌ وَتَنكيدُ

    And may you remain protected by God and steadfast

    May no distress or turmoil befall you from fate

  33. ما لاحَ نَجمٌ وَما بَدرُ السّماءِ بَدا

    ما طابَ لِلسّمعِ مِن ورقاء تَغريدُ

    No star shines, nor does the full moon of the sky appear

    No warbling is sweet to hear from the tender branch

  34. ما الفَتحُ أَنشدَ حبّاً في مَدائِحِكم

    حَبل الهَوى بِفُؤادِ الصبِّ مَشدودُ

    Al-Fatih has not sung love in your praises
