خَبَأتُكَ في قَلبي مَخافَةَ أَن تُرى
وَإِنّك إِنسانٌ لعينيَ وسنانُ
I hid you in my heart for fear you might be seen.
And indeed, you are the drowsy pupil of my eye.
وَما كُنت في عَيني وَحَقّك خابِياً
بِما أَنَّهُ لَم يَخْفَ في العَينِ إِنسانُ
And, by your honor, you were not dim in my eye,
For no pupil has ever been hidden in an eye.
