أَنا السّلسبيلُ الجَوهريُّ بَلاطُهُ
وَعَنهُ حَديثُ الحُسنِ لَيسَ بِمَنسوخِ
I am the Salsabil fountain, whose paving is jewel-like;
And the account of its beauty is not superseded.
بَناني سُليمانُ الزّمانِ مُرصَّفاً
وَضَمَّخَني بِالحُسنِ أَحسنَ تَضميخِ
Sulayman of the age built and paved me,
And anointed me with beauty in the finest manner.
حَلا النّظمُ في مَدحي وفي حَمدِ مُنْشِئي
وَقَد راقَ تاريخاً وَطابَ بِتَأريخِ
Verse grew sweet in praising me and lauding my builder;
And it has proved pleasing as a chronogram, and delightful in recording the date.
