لَمّا نَظَرتُ بِعَيني شَمسَ جَبهَتِهِ
رَأى اِحتِراقاً بِقَلبي قالَ ما حَرقا
When I gazed with my eye at the sun of his brow,
he saw a burning in my heart and said, “What burned it?”
فَقُلت عَينايَ بِلَّورٌ وَأَسفلهُ
قَلبي المُتَيَّمُ وَالمُضنى بِمَن عَشِقا
So I said, “My eyes are crystal, and beneath it
is my heart, love-enslaved and worn by the one it loved;
وَالشَّمسُ مِن وَجهِكَ الزّاهي أَشعّتها
لِلقَلبِ خَرَّت مِنَ البِلوَّرِ فَاِحتَرقا
and the sun from your radiant face—its rays
fell from the crystal onto my heart, so it burned.”
