لِبِركَةِ ماءٍ قلتُ من حيثُ شادَها
سُليمانُ ذو العَلياءِ تيهي كَذا اِشمَخي
To a pool of water I said, since it was built by
Sulayman, possessor of eminence: “Be proud; stand tall thus!”
وَقَد حَسُنت رَصفاً وَقَد طابَ وَضعُها
وَقَد ضُمّخَت بِالحُسنِ أَسنى تَضمّخِ
And its paving was beautiful, and its setting was pleasing,
And it was perfumed with beauty—the most splendid perfuming.
وَكَم قالَ رائيها لِحُسنٍ تَحوزُهُ
بِأنظَمِ تاريخٍ وَطيبٍ بَخٍ بخِ
And how often its beholder said, for the beauty it possesses,
In a most finely composed chronogram, and with delight: “Bravo, bravo!”
