يَوَدُّ أُناسٌ لَو يَكونونَ مِثلَهُ
وَقَد عَلِموهُ أَنّه الأوحدُ الفردُ
Some people wish that they could be like him,
though they know that he is the one—the singular.
يَوَدّون أَمراً لا يَكونُ لِأَنّهُ
أَبى اللَّهُ ربّي أَن يَكونَ لَه نِدُّ
They desire a thing that cannot be, because
God, my Lord, has refused to let him have an equal.
