جازَ كَحيلُ العينِ أَرضَ الظّبا
وَمُقلتاهُ مِثلُ سَيفينِ
The kohl-eyed one crossed the land of gazelles,
And his two eyes were like two swords.
وَقَد سَرَقْنَ الكحلَ مِن عَينِهِ
وَكُحلُه الغَنجُ بِلا مَيْنِ
And they had stolen the kohl from his eye,
And his kohl is coy charm—no lie.
أَما لَهُ عِلمٌ بِأَنّ الظّبا
قَد تَسرِقُ الكحلَ مِنَ العينِ
Does he not know that gazelles
May steal the kohl from the eye?
