ما أَحسَنَ السودانَ وَما أَسناهمُ

مِنهُم بِلالٌ ثُمّ لُقمان السَّرِي

How beautiful are the black people, and how good they are!

Among them is Bilal, then Luqman the secretive,

وَالقَهوَةُ السّوداءُ طابَت نَفحَةً

وَالعود مسودّاً وَمثلَ العنبرِ

And black coffee whose aroma is so pleasing,

As well as blackened wood like ambergris.
