شَرّفتَ بَيروتَ لَمّا أَن حَلَلتَ بِها

فَأسرَفَ البشرُ فيها غايَةَ السّرفِ

You honored Beirut when you arrived

So people excessively indulged in it

أَلبَستها مِن ثِيابِ المَجدِ أَخضَرها

وَتاج فَخرٍ بِأَسنى العِزِّ مُتّصفِ

You dressed it in robes of green glory

And a crown of pride with utmost honor adorned

وَإِذ حَللتَ عَليَّ المَجدِ ساحَتها

تاهَت فَخاراً عَلى الجَنّاتِ وَالغرفِ

And when you brought glory into my domain

It wandered proudly over gardens and lodges

وَما بِغَيركَ لِلتّشريفِ قَد نُسبَت

وَهَل لِغَير عَليّ نسبةُ الشّرفِ

And it was not attributed to honor by other than you

And can honor be attributed to other than Ali?
