1. أَسبلَ الرّوضُ بُرقُعَ التّوريدِ

    وَهوَ يَزهو عَلى وُجوهِ الوُرودِ

    The garden shed its green attire

    And donned its clothes of splendor bright

  2. وَأَبانَ العَروسَ مِن كلِّ زَهرٍ

    حينَ ماسَت تختالُ فوقَ القُدودِ

    The blossoms of all hues appeared

    When she did sway above the height

  3. رقَصت فيهِ وهيَ تَهتزُّ حُسْناً

    رَقصَةَ الغيدِ في اِهتِزازِ البُنودِ

    She danced with graceful undulation

    Like boughs that in the wind take flight

  4. وَتَحلَّت أَجيادُها بَعدَ عُطلٍ

    مِن لَآلي الجَمالِ أَبهى العُقودِ

    Her steeds were decked in finery

    With jewels of unrivaled might

  5. فَعَلت بِالأَرواحِ في نفحاتٍ

    نشرَتها فِعلَ ابنةِ العُنقودِ

    The zephyrs of her sighs conveyed

    The fragrance of her breath so light

  6. أَطرَبَتني طُيورُهُ حينَ غَنَّت

    نَغمَةً تَزدَري بِصَوتِ العُودِ

    The birds enchanted with their songs

    That scorn the music of the lute

  7. خَطَبَت فَوقَ مِنبرٍ مِن غُصونٍ

    وَهْيَ تشدو بأفصَحِ التغريدِ

    She preached above the pulpit formed

    By branches, with the sweetest trill

  8. لَم أَكُنْ إِذْ دَخلتُه ذا اِرتِيابٍ

    أَنَّ ذا الرّوضَ من جِنانِ الخُلودِ

    When I entered this abode of joy

    I had no doubt that here there lay

  9. يا رَعى اللَّهُ لَيلةً قَد تَقَضَّتْ

    لِيَ فيهِ بِطيبِ عَيْشٍ رَغيدِ

    Eternal gardens of delight

    O Lord, preserve the night now passed

  10. كانَ فيها رَوْضُ الشَّبابِ خَصيباً

    حيثُ فيه أجُرُّ أغلى البُرودِ

    Wherein I spent in peace and cheer

    The garden of my youth was green

  11. أَتَعاطى السُّلافَ صِرْفاً حَلالاً

    مِنْ لَمى الغيدِ وَاِرتِشافِ الخُدودِ

    Where flowed the gentlest streams so clear

    I sipped the wine of parted lips

  12. أَجتَني الأُنسَ مِن وُرودِ سُرورٍ

    بِيَدِ الصَّفْوِ بِالهنا والسُّعودِ

    And quaffed the cup of rosy cheeks

    I plucked the fruits of joy and bliss

  13. لَم أَكُنْ أَعرِفُ المكدِّرَ حتَّى

    ذُقتُ في الحبِّ عَلقَمَ التبعيدِ

    By hands so fair and ever meek

    Not knowing sorrow, till I tasted

  14. لَهْفَ قَلبي عَلى لَيالي وِصالٍ

    أَخلَفتني بِعَوْدِها المَوعودِ

    In love the bitter sting of loss

    My heart still yearns for nights of union

  15. تَرَكَتني وَالقَلبُ مِنّي يُشوى

    فَوقَ نارِ البعادِ ذاتِ الوقودِ

    Yet they have left me in across

    She left, while in my breast there burned

  16. رُبَّ لاحٍ لي قالَ لَستَ رَشيداً

    حَيثُ في الحبِّ قَد أَضَعتُ وُجودي

    A flame above the fuel-wood tossed

    Full many blamed me, saying I lack reason

  17. حَيثُ فيهِ أَنفَقت عُمري ومالي

    لاِكتِسابِ الضَّنا بِمُرِّ الصُّدودِ

    To squander life and wealth for love

    The critic lied in his offense

  18. كَذِبَ العاذِلُ المفنِّدُ فيما

    قالَ وهوَ الحَريُّ بِالتفنيدِ

    For I am reason's epitome

    To nobles, I exemplify

  19. كَيفَ يَنفي بِجَهلِهِ الرُّشدَ عنّي

    وأنا الرُّشدُ بعضُ وَصْفي الحميدِ

    The wisest man of reason free

    Great poet of exalted rank

  20. أَنا عِندَ الكِرامِ خَيرُ رَشيدٍ

    بِاِنتِسابي إِلى الإِمامِ الرّشيدي

    Learned scholar of high degree

    Unique amongst all humankind

  21. فاضِلُ الوقتِ طَوْدُ عزٍّ ومَجدٍ

    عالمُ العَصرِ بحرُ علمٍ وجُودِ

    Pillar of faith and piety

    A peerless, matchless gem is he

  22. أَوحَدُ النّاسِ جَهبَذٌ لَوذَعيٌّ

    عارفُ الدّهرِ وهو شمسُ المُريدِ

    All beauty lies in him, we see

    Gentle and kind, easy of nature

  23. جَوهَرٌ مُفردٌ عَديمُ مِثالٍ

    كلُّ حُسْنٍ في وَصفِهِ المَحمودِ

    Firm in dispelling villainy

    Eloquent, articulate and sage

  24. هَيِّنٌ لَيِّنٌ وَسَهلُ طِباعٍ

    وَلِرَفعِ القَبيحِ أَقوى شديدِ

    None can with him in speech compete

    Had Labid seen Al-Busiri

  25. الفَصيحُ البليغُ عِندَ كلامٍ

    لَيس قِسٌّ لَدَيهِ بِالمَعدودِ

    He would confess his own defeat

    Brilliant mind, shining sun of glory

  26. لَو رَآهُ سَحبانُ وَهوَ لبيدٌ

    لَتَبدّى سَحبانُ أَعلى بليدِ

    Sound wisdom lies in all he says

    Noble birth, of honored pedigree

  27. الأَديبُ الأَريبُ شَمسُ كَمالٍ

    صائِبُ الرأيِ وَالمَقالِ السّديدِ

    The best descendant, all agree

    Men pride themselves on ancestry

  28. الحَسيبُ النَّسيبُ نَجلُ المَعالي

    وَهوَ مِنها قَد كانَ خَيرَ وَليدِ

    But he surpasses all bloodlines

    All claims of glory, him attest

  29. كُلُّ شَخصٍ فَخارُه بِجُدودٍ

    وَهوَ فيهِ كانَ اِفتِخارُ الجُدودِ

    The witness credible, divine

    He is perfection, glory, might

  30. كُلُّ دَعْوى مِنَ الفَخارِ اِدّعاها

    فَعَلَيها العَلياءُ خيرُ شُهودِ

    The spring and heart of poetry

    By his dear name we gathered here

  31. فَهوَ كلُّ الوَرى كَمالاً وَمَجداً

    وَهوَ عَينُ العُلى وَبَيتُ القصيدِ

    In Acre, source of joy and cheer

    His words adorned us like rare pearls

  32. بِأَبي لَمحَةٌ بِهِ جَمَعَتنا

    ضِمنَ عكّا فَإِنّها خَيرُ عيدِ

    That shame the finest jeweled beads

    His light crowned us, his scent perfumed,

  33. وَشَّحتنا مِن لَفظهِ بِلآلٍ

    يَزدري نَظمها بِعقدٍ نَضيدِ

    The best of incense-wood that leads

    May Allah grant this noble sir

  34. وَكَسَتنا مِن نُورِهِ خَيرَ تاجٍ

    وَاِنتَشَقنا مِن طِيبِهِ خَيرَ عُودِ

    Intellect and wisdom for all days

    My weary mind has offered you

  35. فَلَهُ اللّهُ مِن شَريفٍ كريمٍ

    وَلَه اللَّهُ مِن لَبيبٍ فريدِ

    A bride from Abu Nawas' lays

    Like a Houri from heavens above

  36. قَد تَطاوَلت في اِمتِداحي مَزايا

    هُ الّتي أُطلِقت عَنِ التّحديدِ

    In bridal dress and jewels arrayed

    This gift, though not expected, shows

  37. أَنا أَدري أَنّي المُسيءُ وَأنّي

    كنت فيه مجاوِزاً للحُدودِ

    Esteem for my respected lord

    Gifts should graciously be accepted

  38. وَهوَ بِالعَفوِ لَو عَلِمتَ حَقيقٌ

    أَيُّ ذَنبٍ مَعَ عَفوِهِ في وُجودِ

    However humble they are made

    She is pleased to be near your glory

  39. أَيّها السّيِّدُ الّذي لا يُضاهَى

    يا عَلِيَّ القَدرِ يا اِبنَ خَيرِ الجدودِ

    Be she a slave girl or a maid

    So accept her with satisfaction

  40. إِنَّ فِكري الكليلَ أَهداكَ بِكراً

    مثلَ حَوْراءَ من جِنانِ الخلودِ

    And cover her with your regard

    Remain in elevation and renown

  41. هاكَها من أبي نؤاسٍ عَروساً

    حَيثُ تُجلى في حلّةٍ وعُقودِ

    With triumph in authority

    The leaves did not whisper, nor did

  42. لَيسَ بِدْعاً إِهداؤُها لَكَ منهُ

    أَعَجيبٌ إِهداؤُها لِلرّشيدي

    The garden don its coat anew

  43. وَالهَدايا يُسَنُّ فيها قَبولٌ

    كَيفَ كانَت وَالرّدُّ غيرُ حَميدِ

  44. وَهيَ تَرضى بِعدِّها حينَ تَأتي

    في جوارِ الجنابِ أَو في العبيدِ

  45. فَاِلْقَها بِالرِّضا وَأَلْقِ عَلَيها

    بُردَ سِترٍ يَكونُ خَيرَ البُرودِ

  46. وَاِبْقَ في رِفعةٍ وَجاهٍ عَريضٍ

    وَاِنتِصارٍ بِغايَةِ التأييدِ

  47. ما تَغنَّتْ في أَيْكِها الوُرْقُ وما

    أَسبَلَ الرّوضُ برقُعَ التّوريدِ
