عَلَيَّ نَحتُ القَوافي حينَ أَنظِمُها

وَإِنّها لا تُضاهي نظمَها الدُّرَرُ

The rhyming rests on me when I compose it

Yet it is unmatched by pearls’ patterning

وَلَستُ أخلق فَهماً للغَبيِّ بِها

وَما عَليَّ إِذا لَم تَفهَمِ البقَرُ

I do not create in it sense for the fool

I am not to blame if cows do not comprehend
