الوردُ قَد قالَ إِذ قُمنا نُقَطِّرهُ
ما بالُكُم تَأخُذونَ النّفْسَ وَالنّفَسا
The rose said, as we plucked it:
"Why do you take my life, breath by breath?
غَيري حَبيبٌ لَكُم تُعطونَهُ مُهجاً
وَدامَ يَلحَقُني مِنكُم أَذىً وَأَسَى
Another beloved you have, whom you give your love -
Yet still I'm met with harm and sorrow from you."
