أَبّدَ اللَّه حسنَ هَذا الزّمانِ
وَسَقاهُ مِن مائِهِ الهَتّانِ
God made this era beautiful
And quenched it with his delightful water
حَيثُ فيهِ أَبدى لَنا شَمس فَضلٍ
قَد سَمَت بِالعُلى عَلى كيوانِ
Where He showed us the sun of grace
Rising with the highest over all creation
أَحمد البرّ بَحر فَضلٍ وَجودٍ
مُقلَة العزِّ عينُ هَذا الأوانِ
Ahmad is an ocean of grace and generosity
The apple of the era's dignity and pride
مُفرَد الدّهرِ لا نَظير يُداني
فَبِهِ الدَّهرُ قَد خَلا عَن ثانِ
Unique in this age with no peer or equal
So the age is free of any other
نَجل غُرٍّ أَماجِدٍ وَكِرام
جير وَهوَ الغرّي غرّة آني
A scion of glorious and generous ancestry
A neighbor yet a stranger in his nobility
فاضلُ العَصرِ فائِق الفاضِل القا
ضي كَما قَد سَما بديع الزّمانِ
Supreme of the age, beyond the supremely virtuous
As he rose, the marvel of the time
خَدَمتهُ النُّقوشُ مِثل المَباني
لِمَعانٍ ما إِن لَها مِن معانِ
Ornate compositions serve him
With meanings that have no precedents
منْ مَثاني ثَنا المَعالي عليهِ
أَطرَبَتنا فَعَوَّذت بِالمَثاني
Praising his glories with well-crafted verses
Enchanting us, adorned with these verses
يا لَهُ اللَّه مِن فَصيحِ بَليغٍ
يَنظِمُ الدرَّ مِثل عَقدِ الجُمانِ
What an eloquent and articulate poet!
Stringing pearls of verse like a necklace
وَرَفيعٍ تَتيهُ بَيروتُ فيهِ
بِاِفتِخارٍ بِهِ عَلى البُلدانِ
Noble, with Beirut proud of him
Boasting of him over all other cities
وَبَديعٍ لَقَد أَتى بِبَديع
فاقَ فيهِ البديعُ في هَمدانِ
Marvelous, bringing wonders in his work
Beyond the wonders of Hamadan's poets
جَمع الشّرعَ وَالحَقيقةَ فيها
فَهما في سَمائِها النيِّرانِ
Joining canon and truth within them
As they shine in his luminous firmament
فيهِما قَد أَقام لِلحقِّ وَزناً
فَرَأَيناهُ مُقسط المِيزانِ
There he established the scales of justice
And we saw him holding the balanced scales
شَمسُ عِلمٍ كَأَنّما العلم فيها
إِذ بَدَت وَالمَعارفُ الفَرقدانِ
A sun of knowledge, as if all knowledge
Emanated when he appeared, radiant celestial sphere
