1. وَلَّى الشّبابُ وَجاءَ الشّيبُ يَتبَعُهُ

    يَسري مُجدّاً بِلا ساقٍ وَلا قدمِ

    Youth has passed and old age has come following it

    Proceeding gloriously without leg or foot

  2. في عارِضَيَّ سَرى شَيبي وَلا عَجبٌ

    فَقَد سَرى الصّبحُ في داجٍ مِنَ الظُّلَمِ

    On my temples strode my grey hair, and no wonder!

    For the dawn has strode in the darkness of night
