1. بِالرّوحِ خدّاهُ ثمَّ الأنفُ بَينَهُما

    تَشابَها وَهُما بَدرانِ قَد طَلَعا

    With spirit he caressed his cheek, then the nose between them

    They resembled one another, like two full moons that have risen

  2. تَعاشَقا عِشقَ ذي وَجدٍ حَليف جَوى

    قَد زادَهُ الوَجدُ فيمَن حبّهُ ولعا

    They fell in love, a burning love like glowing embers

    Which increased his passion for the one whose love consumed him

  3. وَمِن عَفافِهِما لمّا أَنِ اِجتَمَعا

    يا صاحِ بَينَهما لِلسّيفِ قَد وضعا

    And from their chastity, when they came together

    Oh companion between them, a sword has been placed
