قَد جِيء لي مِن نِعالِ الحِبِّ يا حَزني
مِنَ النّوى بِغبارٍ كانَ ملتمسي
The sandals of love have brought me, O my grief,
Dust from the campsite that once sheltered me.
شَمَمتُه خِدنَ وَجدٍ حابِساً نَفسي
حَتّى قَضيت بِشَمِّي حابِسَ النّفسِ
I inhaled its scent of tender affection
Till with that scent I tamed my captured breath.
