1. All creatures, my friend, perish and are lost.

And no being endures except your Lord.

  2. Who is immortal in this world, enduring in it forever?

Had there been immortality, it would have been for the best of creation.

  3. Have you not seen how the noblest of creation have departed?

And all of them are buried in the belly of the earth.

  4. Where, then, where have the noble sons gone?

And where, where are the kings, illustrious and proud?

  5. And since creatures have no lasting life,

It is no wonder, then, that Khurshid did not remain.

  6. Muhammad—his life story was recited among the people,

With the Surah of Praise, and he is praised for all time.

  7. He truly took bodily form from beauty and refinement,

And indeed he was born of radiant beauty.

  8. And among the pearls of time he was a jewel,

With which the neck of glory is adorned for all time.

  9. A peerless pearl, by which perfection's necklace grew lovely,

And was adorned, strung with it in ordered array.

  10. Of fine character, with a bearing whose radiance delighted,

And his beauty was enhanced by his gentle nature.

  11. Refined and accomplished, his qualities were delightful,

And he was counted among people of graciousness and good manners.

  12. Sweet of speech, but bitter in his unerring earnestness,

Sweet in humor, whose honey was plain to see.

  13. The mighty horseman and huge lion, daring,

Whom no champion could match, even were he to charge.

  14. Arms-bearer to a vizier who has no equal,

And throughout time, his like is absent and nowhere found.

  15. Abd Allah, possessed of lordship and high honor,

Whose glory won it reinforcement through might.

  16. The sun of the vizierate—may it never fade or set,

And may it be granted eternity in the Pleiades of glory.

  17. The lion, the lion, the fierce lion, a predator,

By the renown of his might, champions are laid low.

  18. A sea of bounty and generosity, whose palm's largesse—

Had it not existed, generosity could never have been known.

  19. And he is the fortunate one; through him his followers found fortune.

Thus through him his follower Khurshid was fortunate.

  20. His Lord called him to Paradise to dwell in it.

He answered the call, and had no hesitation in the matter.

  21. And he journeyed toward the gardens of eternity, seeking them,

And pressed on, the gardens his intended goal.

  22. And he dwelt there in palaces that rose and towered high,

And their construction adorned them, along with ornaments of solid workmanship.

  23. In the Garden of Eternity, amid its most radiant bliss,

I lovingly marked the date: "In bliss Khurshid triumphed."

  24. Upon him may the God of the Throne, our Lord, pour down

A downpour of favor that knows no bounds,

  25. Throughout time, and as long as the east wind's breeze blows,

And doves perch on the bough, singing sweetly,

  26. As long as lightning flashes and a star appears in the sky,

As long as the sun rises, as long as shade stretches out,

  27. As long as Fath has said, as reminder and admonition:

All creatures, my friend, perish and are lost.
