حَمى بِعَقرَبِ صُدغَيْهِ الخُدودَ وجا
لَ في البَرايا بسَيفِ اللحْظِ واقتَحما
He guarded his cheeks with the scorpion of his temple-locks, and roamed
With cheeks blushing like red cochineal, he came
among humankind with the sword of his glance, and charged in.
Wandering in the wilds, sword of glance unsheathed, charging on.
وَقَد سَما حُسنُه بَدرَ السّما وسَبى
مِنّا العُقولَ بِذاكَ الحُسْنِ وَاِقْتَسما
And his beauty has surpassed heaven’s full moon, and he has taken captive
His beauty soared to the moon in the sky above,
our minds with that beauty, and divided them.
Capturing our minds with that beauty, plundering and dividing the spoils.
