1. I praise Allah, my God,

    who bestowed on us the finest blessing:

  2. the blessing of Islam as a religion,

    in which we are the best community.

  3. And my prayers and my salutations

    are for a prophet who came as a mercy,

  4. whose light of guidance erased

    every darkness of misguidance.

  5. O you who question me,

    seeking an important legal ruling:

  6. so, for one who sees a garden's rose,

    religious law has permitted smelling it;

  7. and for one who sees a cheek's rose,

    if it were lawful to smell it;

  8. and for one enamored of a gazelle,

    if it is lawful to embrace it.

  9. Indeed, this is the law of Taha:

    so it is truth, and it is wisdom.

  10. And lovers have a law

    whose ruling the lovesick one knows.

  11. Indeed, this much is enough

    for you in this important matter.
