Your glad news was proclaimed with utmost eloquence
Your good news is the most eloquent utterance,
by the bird of glad tidings, fluttering its wing.
The bird of glad tidings flutters with its wing,
And the universe dances for joy, adorned,
And the universe dances joyfully adorned,
like a bride dancing in a gown and sash.
Like a bride dancing in her gown and veil.
And cheer has come, and good fortunes have arrived in succession,
People came happily and good fortune arrived,
and bliss has mounted the dais of rejoicing.
Joy ascended the platform of celebrations.
And joy has come, as though it were the water of life,
Happiness came as if it were the water of life,
flowing through bodies and souls.
Flowing in bodies and souls.
And fellowship gives us the choicest wine of good fortune from
Comfort quenches us with the drink of good fortune,
the cup of serenity, among the finest cups.
From the chalice of amity, the finest of chalices.
And the east scatters stars like coins
The East scatters stars like coins
from sunset until the arrival of morning.
From dusk till dawn arrives.
And the horizon has brightened, dancing as it says:
The horizon shines as it dances, saying
“Praise to the Lord, who cleaves open daybreak!”
Praise be to the Lord, Splitter of the dawn.
And Beirut swayed, radiant
Beirut swayed illuminated,
and shining at the arrival of the lamp:
Radiant at the fore of the lamp.
the cub of the gallant youth, lion of the lair, father of glory,
Lion cub of the lair, Abu al-Ala,
the bountiful ocean of courage and generosity,
Sea of courage and sharp spears.
master of keen swords and tall lances in battle,
Lord of plateaus and heights in battle,
of every sharp, cutting sword and spear;
Against every angry, piercing lance.
of cheerful countenance, possessed of beauty and splendor,
Free and noble, dignified and brilliant,
with a radiant brow, bright and shining;
Of glowing, radiant forehead.
master of lofty honors, beneath which lies Suha’s sphere,
Lord of glories, your orbit above them
in glory above its Simak the Lance-bearer;
With honor, atop its piercing axis.
lord of happiness in the most exalted rank,
Lord of felicity in the highest authority,
amid good fortune, graced with success.
In beautiful fortune, dressed in success.
Indeed, I congratulate him, my lips smiling,
I congratulate him, and my mouth is named
on his arrival, which calls forth rejoicing.
With his arrival that calls for joy.
And may God preserve him and make his lifespan
May God protect him and make his life
the lifespan of vultures, in piety and righteousness.
As long as the eagles’, in piety and rectitude.
And remain safe, and live on in health and safety,
Be well and live in health and safety
for all time, in the ease of one at rest;
All time, at ease and comfort.
as long as a bird flies, as long as a nightingale sings,
No bird has flown, no nightingale sung,
as long as a branch sways in a breath of wind,
No branch swayed in the wind’s breath,
as long as a star gleams, as long as dawn appears, and as long as
No star has shone, no dawn appeared,
journeys are made by night, at morning and at evening;
No one strode at morn or eve,
as long as Abd al-Latif comes forth with his verse,
Until the servant of the Kind One composed
praising you with the most eloquent praise.
His eulogy of you in utmost praise.
