Are there no tidings from the seacoast
to bring news of it to one far from home?
And will I smell its fragrance when
Salma and Asma send it to us with the breeze?
Its familiar haunts held many forms of companionship,
and in the dwellings beyond it are names that recall it.
How pleasant and lovely was the life I enjoyed there;
how often red wine stood ready for me there in the cup.
Will I return? My return to it would be no wonder,
for my heart and my very being are truly there.
Will my eyes find comfort at the sight of it,
and will my ears find something there to hear?
May God water those dwellings, whose beauty was so pleasing,
and revive them with the waters of kindness.
