وَلَمّا بِرَيحانِ العِذارِ تَطرَّزت
خُدودُ الّذي أَهوى وَهمتُ بِحُبِّهِ
And when the basil of cheek-down embroidered
When his cheeks were embroidered with the basil of chastity
the cheeks of the one I love and am mad with love for,
Of the one I love and lusted for his love
فَنَرجِسُ عَينَيهِ يُنادي عِذارَهُ
أَيا صاحِبي هَذا العَقيقُ فَقِف بِهِ
the narcissus of his eyes calls to his cheek-down:
The narcissus of his eyes called out his chastity
“O my companion, this is al-ʿAqīq; so halt there.”
Oh my friend, this carnelian, so stand by it
