The dusky hue of his lips doubtless quenches the blaze within me.
When his fervor inflamed my inmost being, no doubt
And indeed, my life is union with him and his nearness.
Quenching it would be my life’s destiny and his approach,
And even if all the earth's water were to overflow
And were the waters of the earth to overflow
Upon my heart's embers, their burning would grow fiercer.
On the embers of my heart, they would but increase its inflammation,
And never, through all time, as long as I live,
Nor in the whole of time, while I have breath
Will anything quench it except his saliva.
Can anything avail to quench that fire but his good pleasure.
