The beloved has gone, so slumber has come to my eyes;
The beloved is gone, so sorrow has come to stay with me
so the eyelids and pupils rose to drive it away.
In his absence my eyelids and pupils are active
My eyelid would not close at the sight of the beloved;
My eyelids were not meant to be closed to the vision of love
so when it does not see him, how can it close?
So how can they close when he is not here to be seen?
