وَيَوم ثَلجٍ بِه قَوسُ السّحابِ رَمى
حَتّى بَدا فيهِ وَجهُ الأَرضِ مَلآنا
And on a day of snow, the clouds’ bow let fly,
A day of snow, when the rainbow of clouds cast
Until the face of the earth appeared filled with snow.
Until the face of the earth appeared completely filled
كَأَنَّما السّحب فيهِ قَد تَقولُ لَنا
بِالبَردِ موتوا فَقَد حيَّكتُ أَكفانا
As though the clouds that day were saying to us:
As if the clouds were saying to us
“Die of the cold, for I have woven shrouds.”
Die from the cold, for I have woven your shrouds
