يُقارِنُ وَردُ الخدِّ نَرجسَ طَرفهِ
سَعيد قرانٍ يُستطابُ وَيحسنُ
The rose of his cheek joins the narcissus of his eye—
The cheek's rose compares to the narcissus of its glance
A fortunate conjunction, pleasing and beautiful.
A blessed comparison, pleasant and fine
وَفي وَجهِهِ شَمسٌ وَفي الأفقِ مِثلُها
وَلَكِن ما في الوجهِ أَبهى وَأَحسنُ
And in his face is a sun, and on the horizon one like it,
In its face there is a sun, and in the horizon its like
Yet the one in his face is more radiant and more beautiful.
But that which is in the face is more splendid and beautiful
