حازَ المَحاسِنَ ما بِهِ مِن عالمِ
Ah, if only my dark-eyed, dusky-lipped beloved, who
Oh, if only my beloved, with eyes so bright,
possesses every beauty, were known to no one!
Who gained all beauty the world could ever hold,
إِنّي أَغارُ عَلَيه أَعظَمَ غيرةٍ
مِنّي وَمِنهُ وَمِن جَميعِ العالَمِ
Indeed, I am jealous over him with the fiercest jealousy—
Knew how fiercely I guard what is hers by right,
even of myself, of him, and of the whole world.
More than herself, or I, or all the world untold.
