رَطْباً ولا يابساً في البَدوِ والحضَرِ

Be easygoing, gentle, mild in temperament—not

Be mellow, gentle and easygoing, neither too soft nor too harsh, in both the desert and the city. If you are too soft, people will squeeze you dry. If you are too harsh, you will break down.

إِنْ كُنتَ رَطباً تَكن في النَّاسِ معتصَراً

وإنْ تكن يابساً تبدو بمنكسِرِ

وإنْ تكن يابساً تبدو بمنكسِرِ

If you are wet, you will be squeezed among people;

and if you are dry, you will appear broken.
