قَالوا عَلِمتَ بِحُمّى الحِبِّ قلتُ لَهم
نَعَم وَقَد صِرتُ مِن حُمّاهُ مَغموما
They said, “Have you learned of the beloved’s fever?” I said to them,
They said, "You are feverish with love," I said to them,
“Yes, and I have become sorrowful from his fever.
"Yes, and I have become distressed by its fever."
تَنفّسي مِن لَظى قَلبي وَقَد بعُدَت
مِنّا الدّيارُ بِهِ قَد صارَ مَحموما
My breath, from my heart’s blaze—while far away
My heart breathes heavily, for the homelands
from us the dwellings have grown—has become fevered by it.”
In which he dwells have become distant and gloomy.
