I rode the black steed of night to visit them,
I rode a dark night to visit them,
And the star, its forehead-blaze, guided me to the mountain’s foot.
And the star with lowered veil guided to the slope.
When I rose to mount it at departure, it expired,
When I stood to mount it upon going, it passed away,
So they mounted me in its stead on the gray steed of dawn.
So they mounted me away from it at the gray dawn.
