Three seas—ah, by my life!—have gathered together.
Three oceans, by my life, gathered
With my own eyes I see them, appearing without a doubt.
In my eyes I see them appearing boundless
One sea, rich in learning, has surged with knowledge:
An ocean abundant in knowledge, surging with wisdom
An imam known among people by his affiliation with al-Awzāʿ.
A leader to morals, he is attributed in the world
And a sea rich in generosity—its bounty has overflowed,
An ocean abundant in generosity, his generosity overflowed
And so it shamed the clouds’ downpour, without doubt, and scorned it.
He shamed clouds pouring rain, no doubt looking down on them
And one sea is the salty, bitter one; and indeed it
And an ocean of pure salt, yet
Has surely delighted me as a harbor, just as it has as a sight.
His mouth has shed for me, as his sight has shed
