O my two companions, leave off your censure and scolding; I will not bend to blame or rebuke.
I was not the first whom passion overwhelmed, or who wandered madly for the fair, shapely maidens,
Those slayers who kill deliberately without penalty, who captivate with the signaling of their eyebrows,
With deep black eyes and a languid, quiet gaze, shooting arrows of glances with precision and torment,
Possessing a radiant profile that smiles to reveal hail-white teeth, sweet to the kiss, tasted with wine,
With flushed cheeks—if you sought to borrow light, his countenance would satisfy you without need for any kindled fire,
Full in the hips, slender at the waist, youthful; rich in beauty, yet denying what is sought.
I love him without prohibition or folly; for such love is pure, untainted.
So leave the remembrance of the days of youth, and all the flirtation and amorous verse they contained,
And mention the merits of him whose virtues have encompassed all mankind, and who never reminds others of his gifts.
The Crown Prince, of lofty glory; his ambition is victory for the faith and order for the world.
Supported in resolve, blessed in nature, guided in judgment at both the start and the outcome.
He plunges into the fray fearing no consequence, and rides the grave peril without turning aside to flee.
Like those who race to surpass in every honor, he inflicted upon the enemies destruction and silencing.
Bountiful glories raised him in nobility, proud leaders descending from noble, high-born mothers.
A people who have been a victory for the Truth since their creation, with white swords, brown spears, and swift, lean steeds.
How much might and generosity have they entrusted to Time, and saved the people from disbelief and sin.
After them rose the Eye of Time, he who is both hoped for and feared, for his gifts and his terrors.
Your father is your pride, through whom Time returned to youth in his era, after being bent with age.
Proud and bold, a refuge in great crises; in war and drought, the shelter for every distressed soul.
When the forefront of calamity darkens and confuses even the men of judgment and experience,
His judgment clarifies what was obscure, so it returns like the dawn following a pitch-black night.
He held secret intentions for Islam which he concealed, yet God revealed them openly with validation.
He is the beloved, ransomed with our very souls and every cherished thing our hearts contain.
He named you Saud, for you rose as a good omen with blessings, a title signifying good fortune.
He entrusted the Covenant to you, choosing and approving your beautiful conduct in all its forms.
He intended that you—to the dismay of enemies—should rise in the easts after the setting.
We seek from the Lord support for you: in life, in glory, in renown, and in goodness.
How many a towering favor you have in the heights of glory, praised for being both inherited and earned.
We shall never cease to praise you for it, in verse and prose, detailed and categorized.
O son of the noble ancients whose bounty remains among the people, recited and written.
To you I have directed them—trained white camels, cutting through the desert by night and by day.
Each lean mount like a letter of script, laboring through elevation, depression, pause, and setting forth.
The singer drives sleep from us with your praise, and spurs on our mounts with his song,
That we may reach the shade and the fertile pasture, the universal bounty and the unmeasured gift.
Then may the prayers and peace of God be upon him whom God distinguished with nearness and goodness,
Muhammad, the best of messengers, and upon his followers and companions—the best of all companies.
